Restless...

Yesterday was an interesting day. Highs (I lovelovelove my husband and the little life we've built together) and lows (it's always painful to see loved ones so frail, and to be reminded of how quickly time passes by).

In between the walks with our dogs and hospital visits, there was this:

I love this little Morton's Salt girl. So unexpected, and so fitting -- I've been feeling a little like her these last few days, but probably minus the flowers.

Yesterday...

I saw a blue firetruck.

I was watched.

And today, my eyes are a little puffy from shedding some tears last night. Oh, time...why can't you just slow down sometimes? Or why can't I learn how to fully appreciate what I have when I have it?

Lovely weekend...

This is what we had for dinner last night. Oh yes. Two amazing hot dogs (that you can barely see smothered underneath all those yummy toppings there), two orders of tater tots (one with chili cheese!), and a cheeseburger (instead of boring hamburger buns, with King's Hawaiian bread). OH YES.

After dinner husband I walked the dogs and went home and did something I've been dying to do for awhile now -- we hung out in bed for hours! It was uh-maz-ing. We were just laying around, playing with the dogs, talking (miniature pigs and film cameras figured prominently in our conversation), and playing with our phones (why is it so hard to put down the technology??). I'm not sure why we don't do this more often -- oh, that's right, because we have jobs and errands and errands and errands. But it was fun. Can't wait to do it again.

Today I'm thankful for:

My hair. It's true. And I'm ok with how vain or silly that may sound -- sometimes we need to just love ourselves a little, ya know?

Yesterday, it was rainy, cold, and gray. Today, it's sunny, brilliant blue, and maybe even a little balmy. I can't wait until it's really, truly spring.

My husband. He's patient, sweet, loving, and never fails to surprise me. For example, he was running through our house the other night playing MP3s on his phone, with dogs in tow, and he had his phone in his pocket...and maybe he was also dancing (phone was in pocket, he explained, so his hands would be free...perhaps for dancing). It was adorable.

Our dinner last night was made completely from the contents our CSA box and from farmer's market purchases: boiled new potatoes with lemon and butter, and broccoli with shallots, butter, and lemon zest. I love it when I'm able to do something like that, and I think slowly we're getting better at it. Still trying to eat out only once a week, and still trying to shop and eat as sustainably and healthily as possible.

Also, I had a lovely morning:

She's slightly dirty, but so dear (sorry pup, you'll get a good scrubbin' this weekend).

Things I'm thankful for today:

Continued good health of my parents -- something I had never even given any thought to before, but is now creeping and crawling into my consciousness more and more. Is this healthy? Normal? No one knows. All I know is, I've been calling my mom daily, making a much, much more concerted effort to see her and spend time with her, and I love it. Wish I had started doing it earlier, in fact.

Our new Sonicares -- our old ones finally died on us after 4 years of dedicated service. Everyone should get a Sonicare toothbrush. Those things are amazing and your mouth will feel amazingly, sparkling clean!

Possibilities and potential -- scary, exciting, exhilarating and nauseating!

Last night husband and I made some Japanese curry for dinner. It's slowly growing on me. I still don't really get it though -- when I think of curry, I think India or Thailand. But Japanese curry is good too. It's a fast, easy meal and I particularly love it because it's a great way for us to use up the stuff we get in our CSA box (especially in the wintertime, when potatoes and onions are staples).

This morning before work I watched the rain fall into our backyard. We have a canopy of old oak trees in our yard, and our camellias have been blooming, so it was beautiful to see the rain fall through the leaves and twisty branches and then drop off the camellia blossoms -- bright spots in a lot of gray. It was a nice way to start the day.

Things that I've been thinking about:

When is enough enough? Does anyone else out there ever feel like you're just not doing enough, and you should be doing more, but you don't know what? Hmm...

OYSTERS! Obsessed.with.oysters. We started our fabulous dinner last night with a dozen delicious oysters - Kumamoto, Blackberry Point, and Skookum. I love brine, and I'm currently scheming about ways I can get more oysters into my belly, asap.

Which leads to random, generalized life stress (what am I going to DO for the rest of my life, for example)
Which leads to: my favorite petulant question - why can't my thirties last for two decades, instead of just one? I like where I am -- settled enough to be comfortable, but things are up in the air enough to be filled with delicious possibilities.
Which leads to: is my biological clock broken?
Which leads to: I think I need some chocolate...
